An apple a day...
An apple a day keeps the doctor away: and the old saying is backed up by medical evidence.

The fact was highlighted at the "Experimental Biology 2008" congress in San Diego. Researchers studied the data available from the largest Federal database on nutrition and health and found that those who ate apples regularly were 27% less likely to fall victim to metabolic syndrome, a condition linked to a number of chronic illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Adults who eat apples also tend to carry less abdominal fat, have 30% lower blood pressure and 21% lower risk of obesity. According to researchers apples thus had a leading role in shaping a healthy diet, low in sugars and fats.
